2023 Cadillac Lyriq Super Cruise Non-Functional At Production Start

Production of the all-new 2023 Cadillac Lyriq began at the Cadillac Spring Hill plant in Tennessee at the end of March and is currently underway. The battery electric crossover features the luxury marque’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assist technology, but for the time being, Super Cruise won’t be functional, Cadillac Society has learned.

Specifically, the necessary hardware for Super Cruise (not to be confused with Ultra Cruise) is installed in new units of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq. However, the feature itself will be activated at a later date via an over-the-air (OTA) software update, thereby activating the Level 2+ automated driver assist system.

At this time, it’s not clear why Cadillac elected to postpone enabling the next-gen version of Super Cruise in the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq.  It’s also not clear when the OTA update could be dispatched to the luxury electric crossover to enable the feature. However, in the meantime, Cadillac Lyriq buyers are eligible for compensation for the missing feature, and can choose between either 100,000 GM Reward Points, which can be redeemed for things like paying for parts or service at participating dealers, or an extra year of free public charging at EVgo stations nationwide.

As a reminder, the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq is available in either rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive. Power output is 340 horsepower for RWD models and 500 horsepower for AWD models. Pricing for the Lyriq Luxury RWD starts at $62,900, while the Lyriq Luxury AWD starts at $64,900.

Orders for the new 2023 Cadillac Lyriq opened up on May 19th and filled up very quickly, but interested customers are still able to pay a $100 deposit to add their name to a waiting list. Most recently, we learned that the highly popular battery electric luxury crossover is attracting a younger crowd, as 68 percent of Lyriq buyers belong to either Gen X or Gen Y demographic groups. Additionally, a whopping 70 percent of buyers are new to the Cadillac brand.
