Super Cruise Unavailable To Order On 2022 Cadillac Escalade Again

The 2022 Cadillac Escalade is once again unavailable to order with Super Cruise, the luxury marque’s semi-autonomous driver assist feature, Cadillac Society has learned.

Super Cruise is being withheld from the 2022 Cadillac Escalade starting with May 9th production due to the ongoing global microchip shortage. This isn’t the first time the feature has been excluded from the full-size luxury SUV, as it was previously unavailable between production starting in October 21st and ending in early December 2021 due to a similar set of constraints. It was reintroduced shortly thereafter, as soon as the microchip supply situation allowed.

Under normal conditions, Super Cruise is included as standard on the Escalade Premium Luxury, Sport, Premium Luxury Platinum, and Sport Platinum trim levels. It is not offered on the base Escalade Luxury trim.

Before we go any further, we should clarify that Super Cruise was originally intended to be included as standard on all units of the 2022 Escalade, excluding the Luxury trim. As of this writing, though Super Cruise is not available at all, Cadillac is offering the feature as a standalone option for an additional $2,500, rather than having it included as a standard feature. At this time, it’s not clear when Super Cruise will become available again.

Super Cruise is a driver assist feature that enables the driver to take their hands off the wheel and feet off the pedals during highway driving on certain divided North American thoroughfares within the United States and Canada. The feature employs a range of onboard sensors and cameras, including visual cameras, LiDar mapping, as well as GPS information and radar to control braking and acceleration while the vehicle is in motion. A recent update to the technology granted the ability to tow with the driver assist feature active in certain units of the Escalade.

The Escalade is not the only vehicle in the luxury marque’s lineup to be affected by the unavailability of Super Cruise. The CT4 and CT5 luxury sedans currently can not be ordered in conjunction with the feature. Despite this, Super Cruise is still available on the XT6 luxury crossover, at least as of this writing.
