A new 10-speed automatic transmission has been introduced for the 2022 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Cadillac Society has learned.
Assigned production code MHS, the new transmission is exclusive to Cadillac Escalade models equipped with the 6.2L V8 gasoline-powered engine (production code L87) and features electronically controlled overdrive, a Traction Select System that has specific tow/haul capabilities, as well as a manual shifting mode. It is equipped as standard on all units of the Escalade with the gasoline V8 engine.
Meanwhile, units of the 2022 Cadillac Escalade with the 3.0L turbodiesel (production code LM2) retain a different version of the 10-speed automatic transmission. This version of the transmission (production code MQC) was introduced as standard across the board for the 2021 model year, and was installed in both gasoline and diesel applications.
A Cadillac spokesperson explained the change to Cadillac Society: “The update allows our manufacturing and dealer teams to more easily align the specific calibration needed for the transmission and can easily enable OTA updates in the future.”
In other words, giving the gasoline transmission a different production enables Cadillac to update it separately from vehicles with the turbo-diesel engine.
As a reminder, the 6.2L V8 powerhouse under the hood of the 2022 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV is rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel-drive is standard on the luxury SUV, while all-wheel-drive is optional. The fifth-generation Escalade has been praised for its wealth of cutting-edge technology, including Super Cruise, which recently became available for the SUV again after a hiatus due to the global microchip shortage.
