The 2022 Cadillac XT5 hasn’t been on dealer lots for very long, but it’s already been recognized as one of the top 10 most reliable cars on the market today.
A recent Consumer Reports study highlighted a list of what it deems the Top 10 Most Reliable Cars for the 2022 model year. The list is compiled using owner satisfaction data along with road test review scores performed by CR. The study takes into account 17 “trouble areas” when ranking vehicles, on the lookout for minor irritants such as squeaky brakes and broken interior trim pieces, as well as larger problems like out-of-warranty transmission troubles and other major drivetrain issues.
Consumer Reports scored the 2022 Cadillac XT5 a reliability score of 89, which is considered near-perfect. That ranks the Cadillac as the second most reliable vehicle in its segment. The luxury crossover scored high marks in regard to the individual trouble areas outlined in the study, with the only major reported issues being associated with in-vehicle electronics. However, specifics details on said issues were not published, so it’s not clear what problems customers might have.
For comparison, the least reliable vehicles in the XT5’s competing segment were the Tesla Model Y and Alfa Romeo Stelvio, which tied for an abysmal reliability score of 18. The Lincoln Corsair performed only slightly better, earning a reliability score of 20. Barely outperforming the XT5 was its corporate cousin, the Buick Envision, which received a score of 90. It’s worth noting that the Corsair is a direct rival to the Cadillac XT4, rather than the XT5. Regardless, the 2022 Cadillac XT5 earned an overall score of 82 based on a predicted reliability of 5/5, a road test score of 78/100 and a Predicted Owner Satisfaction score of 3/5.
As a reminder, the 2022 Cadillac XT5 features two engine options. The turbocharged 2.0L (production code LSY) engine is standard on the (base) Luxury and Premium Luxury models, where it makes 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the naturally-aspirated 3.6L V6 (production code LGX) is optional on the Premium Luxury trim while being standard on the Sport model. The atmospheric six is rated at 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. Both engines mate to Cadillac’s nine-speed automatic transmission.
