2022 Cadillac XT5 Will Have Limited Wireless Charging Availability

Certain units of the 2022 Cadillac XT5 will not feature the wireless smartphone charging technology, Cadillac Society has learned.

The wireless phone charging feature, assigned production code K4C, was originally slated to be offered as standard equipment on Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels of the luxury crossover and not on the base Luxury model. However, that has since changed due to the ongoing global microchip shortage, which will result in the feature not being included on some units of the 2022 Cadillac XT5.

Cadillac has not made clear how it will determine which XT5 models will be built with the feature and which ones will be assembled without it. Vehicles without the wireless phone charging will be tagged with production code R6S and will include a $75 credit to the MSRP as compensation.

The wireless smartphone charging technology is the latest in a growing list of features to be excluded from new Cadillac models due to restricted supply of new microchips. For instance, the 2022 Cadillac XT6 will also have limited availability of the wireless smartphone charging feature, as Cadillac Society previously reported. Additionally, 2021 Cadillac Escalade will be assembled without the Electric Steering Column Lock feature as well as the engine auto stop-start function

The decision to exclude certain features from new models allows Cadillac to reduce the number of microchips used for the production of a single vehicle. This allows the marque to focus on continuing to assemble new vehicles to meet consumer demand.

The 2022 Cadillac XT5 crossover will begin shipping to dealerships later this year from the Spring Hill Assembly plant in Tennessee, and the deletion of the wireless smartphone charging feature is expected to continue for a portion of the 2022 model year as the microchip situation continues to evolve.
