Cadillac Symboliq And Optiq Trademark Filings May Be Dropped

Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, may drop its trademark filings for Cadillac Symboliq and Cadillac Optiq. The trademark filings were originally believed to be destined for a pair of future Cadillac electric vehicles.

The trademark filings may be dropped as a result of inaction on the part of General Motors. The Cadillac Optiq trademark filings currently have a status of “Abandoned – Failure To Respond Or Late Response,” while the Cadillac Symboliq trademark filings currently have a status of “Notification of non-final action emailed.”

Both the Cadillac Optiq and Cadillac Symboliq names fall in line with the luxury marque’s latest electric vehicle naming conventions, which add the “iq” suffix to the end of each model name. The latest conventions are applied to the upcoming Cadillac Celestiq flagship luxury sedan, as well as the recently revealed Cadillac Lyriq luxury crossover. The new naming convention is a substitute for the XT# and CT# naming conventions in place for models like the Cadillac XT4, XT5, XT6, CT4, and CT5.

As a reminder, Cadillac will launch at least five all-electric models by the 2025 calendar year, two of which are already known – the Cadillac Lyriq, and the Cadillac Celestiq. The remaining three models were originally considered candidates for the Cadillac Optiq and Cadillac Symboliq trademark filings, with possible model types including a new compact crossover that slots in below the Lyriq, a new three-row crossover that slots in above the Lyriq, and a full-sized SUV that is believed to be an electrified variant of the Cadillac Escalade SUV.
