2022 Cadillac XT4 To Drop NFC Mobile Device Pairing

These days, smartphone integration is a key consideration for new-vehicle buyers. As such, Cadillac introduced Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to the Cadillac XT4 crossover lineup with the 2019 model year. Now, however, NFC mobile pairing will be dropped with the introduction of the 2022 Cadillac XT4.

For those readers who may not know, NFC is a short-range technology that works to establish a communication link between two electronic devices. When the devices are within 4 cm (1.6 inches) of one another, the technology allows the devices to quickly communicate back and forth, making mobile device pairing quick and easy. The technology is also used for things like quick checkout at the grocery store or other businesses, access to exhibit information at a museum, and to quickly get through the gates at the subway.

NFC mobile pairing is standard for all Cadillac XT4 trim levels. However, moving forward, the feature will no longer be offered, starting with the introduction of the 2022 model year, as confirmed be Cadillac Product and Brand Communications, SUVs, Whitney Lewis.

In a recent interview with Cadillac Society, Lewis outlined why NFC mobile pairing would no longer be offered with the 2022 Cadillac XT4.

“The NFC feature was originally added in response to customer concerns with the ease of cell phone pairing,” Lewis told Cadillac Society during the recent interview. “The pairing process has improved over time with each infotainment generation, and at the same time, customers are now more accustomed to the process. Additionally, the NFC feature worked with only a portion of cell phones in the market.”

The Cadillac XT4 was originally set to receive a refresh for the 2022 model year. However, due to complications stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, the model refresh was pushed back to the 2023 model year.
