A Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) bulletin has been issued for the 2021 model year Cadillac Escalade and Cadillac Escalade ESV full-size luxury SUVs due to a fault in the brake system control module which can lead to over-the-air software updates being blocked.
The problem: in certain examples of the Cadillac Escalade, it is possible that an internal fault may occur in the brake system control module’s on-board diagnostics buffer. This fault is very difficult to detect, because it does not show a malfunction indicator lamp being illuminated or a message appearing on the driver information center.
The hazards: there is no reason to believe that the fault will lead to a reduction in braking performance. However, if an over-the-air software update is sent to the brake system control module’s on-board diagnostics buffer, and the customer accepts this through the vehicle’s infotainment system, the update will fail because it will have been blocked by the active fault. The only indication of this will be an error message on the driver information center, which the customer may or may not notice. To add to the complication, the fault is not visible through dealer tools.
The fix: dealers will reprogram the brake system control module if necessary.

Next steps: dealers will be able to identify involved vehicles by using an internal system. The Customer Service Program is in effect until November 30th 2022.
