Cadillac Steps Up To Sponsor Upcoming IMSA Round At Sebring

General Motors and Cadillac have stepped up to sponsor the upcoming IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship round at Sebring International Raceway.

The first-ever Cadillac Grand Prix of Sebring will be held on Saturday, July 18th from the iconic Sebring circuit in central Florida. The event will be the second race in the revised IMSA season schedule, following the WeatherTech Grand Prix of Daytona on July 4th.

Additionally, the new 2020 Cadillac CT5-V will lead the field to green for the Cadillac Grand Prix of Sebring – marking the first time the CT5 has paced a motorsports event. The Cadillac CT5-V, which is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0L LGY V6 engine with 360 horsepower, went on sale in the U.S. earlier this year.

“High performance driving is part of Cadillac’s DNA,” Cadillac president Steve Carlisle said in a statement. “We have all missed racing and we’ve been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to see our DPi-V.R prototypes compete on the track again. That’s why Cadillac is proud to support IMSA’s return to racing as the title sponsor of the July 18 race at Sebring, one of the world’s most iconic tracks.”

IMSA fans will know that Daytona and Sebring typically play host to the 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring. The race series has elected to use the tracks for sprint races, however, as it tries to make up for time lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

IMSA was able to host the 2020 24 Hours of Daytona prior to the pandemic, although it was forced to postpone the 12 Hours of Sebring due to the virus. IMSA is planning to run the Sebring endurance race at the end of the season in November.

Cadillac already has a major IMSA win under its belt in 2020 after the No. 10 Cadillac DPi-V.R of Wayne Taylor Racing won the 24 Hours of Daytona in January. It will be hoping for more success at Sebring next month, though Acura and Mazda will be eager to stand atop the podium after the lengthy racing hiatus.
