2020 Cadillac CT6 Changes, Updates, New Features Detailed

The Cadillac CT6 is one seriously great vehicle that was made even better by the 2019 model year refresh. Meanwhile, the 2020 Cadillac CT6 is getting a few updates and change before production of the large ends at the Detroit-Hamtramck plant later this month. Here are the changes, updates and new features that are different for the 2020 CT6.

Model Line

Arguably the biggest change for the 2020 Cadillac CT6 were the discontinuation of various models within the range, including the following:

Model Trim Level PEG Code Engine
6KH69 Luxury 1SA Turbo 2.0L I-4 LSY
6KHJ69 Premium Luxury 1SC Turbo 2.0L I-4 LSY
6KM69 Platinum 1SN Twin-Turbo 3.0L V-6 LGW
6KL69 Sport 1SJ Twin-Turbo 3.0L V-6 LGW

One of the most noteworthy changes is the deletion of the Sport trim level, which Cadillac Society exclusively reported on. Introduced only for the 2019 model year as part of Cadillac’s new Y trim level strategy, Sport models feature a more aggressive appearance by removing many of the traditional shiny chrome bits and replace them with darker hues. The model came equipped with the twin-turbo 3.0L engine making 404 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque and looked really sinister.

The changes leave the 2020 CT6 with only two engines – the naturally-aspirated 3.6L V-6 (production code LGX) on the Luxury and Premium Luxury models, as well as the twin-turbo 4.2L V-8 Blackwing (production code LTA) on the Platinum model.

Exterior

On the outside, the 2020 Cadillac CT6 loses the Bronze Dune Metallic exterior color while also updating the engine designation badges, as per the automaker’s new torque-based nomenclature. The 3.6L models get the 400 badge while the 4.2L Twin Turbo gets the 800T designation.

Interior

Inside, the 2020 Cadillac CT6 deletes the Dark Auburn with Jet Black accents color combination. The Super Cruise system also gets a mileage expansion that includes trunk roads, as reported previously.

Mechanical

On the mechanical side, the 2020 CT6 loses turbo-charged 2.0L I-4 engine (production code LSY) as well as the twin-turbo 3.0L V-6 engine (production code LGW). The luxury sedan also loses the engine block heater option.

Packages

The final changes are to the various packages, as follows:

  • CT6 Luxury model with the 3.6L V-6 engine (LGX) now includes the contents of the Convenience Package and the Driver Awareness Package
  • CT6 Premium Luxury model with the 3.6L V-6 engine (LGX) now includes Super Cruise
  • CT6 Platinum model with the twin-turbo 4.2L V-8 Blackwing engine (LTA) now includes the Active Chassis Package 20″ as well as 20-inch Platinum Twin 5-Spoke alloy wheels with Manoogian finish and chrome inserts

Looking Ahead

And that rounds out all the changes, updates and new features to the 2020 Cadillac CT6.

Unfortunately, the large sedan is not long for this world, with production scheduled to end at the end of January. It’s currently unclear whether Cadillac plans on moving production elsewhere, or importing the vehicle from China. As of this writing, both scenarios look highly unlikely.

Note that the changes described herein apply only to the U.S. market. Changes for other markets may differ.
