Earlier this month, we walked the show floor at the 2019 Miami International Auto Show, where we saw a number of hot new Caddy models, including this – the Cadillac CT4. Draped in a smokey shade dubbed Shadow Metallic, we managed to capture the luxury brand’s latest C-segment four-door with the following Live Photo Gallery.
This particular Cadillac CT4 is presented in the Premium Luxury trim level, which slots above the base-level Luxury and runs parallel to the performance-flavored Sport trim level. In terms of aesthetics, the Premium Luxury and Luxury trim levels are differentiated from the Sport thanks to brighter exterior trim bits, a unique fascia, and bright grille insert, whereas the Sport offers darker accents, new wheels and a few other details.
Under the hood, the Cadillac CT4 is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder (production code LSY) as standard, which produces upwards of 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The Premium Luxury trim level is also offered with a turbocharged 2.7L four-cylinder (production code L3B), which produces 325 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. The 2.0L engine option pairs to an eight-speed automatic, whereas the 2.7L uses a ten-speed gearbox. Rear-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive is optional.
One could consider the Cadillac CT4 to be a refreshed ATS Sedan, given the CT4 carries over the same general body structure as the ATS. This includes all the same cutlines, plus the same mirrors and door handles. Both vehicles also run the same general vehicle architect – the standard wheelbase Alpha platform.
That said, there are quite a few differences between the Cadillac CT4 and ATS worth noting. For starters, the CT4’s underlying structure is in fact the Alpha 2 platform, a more evolved iteration of the ATS’ Alpha architecture. The CT4 also runs the all-new Global B electrical architecture, while introducing a new powertrain set and all-new cabin design to boot. With that in mind, if the CT4 is considered a “refresh,” then it’s quite substantial.

Looks cheap with that cheap Black plastic under tray in the rear that isn’t even body colored and this is the Premium Luxury trim level…..sad. The CT4 will not sell as well as the ATS. No WOW! factor at all!
Geoff
I think you’re being overly critical. This aligns with the rest of the segment. A3, CLA, 2 series – all the same.
Alex Luft
Cheap black plastic under tray? You mean the rear valance insert? Oh ok, let’s talk about it!
Are you suggesting that one trim piece that you personally do not like will turn buyers off the entire car? How do you know that the market at large will be turned off by the piece in question? And did you know that every single competitor to the CT4 (Audi A3, A-Class, CLA-Class, and BMW 1 Sedan and 2 Gran Coupe) all have a black rear valance insert.
Finally, the CT4 fixes all of the major things wrong with the ATS… and yet you say that it will be less successful than the ATS. Where’s the logic?

John Engelman is pretty much always a negative nilly. I have yet to see a positive reaction in his comments. He thinks Cadillac is doing everything wrong and are failing. The reality distortion field is big with this one.
I agree with Geoff and Alex. The CT4 is finally positioned correctly to take the C segment by storm.

Let me count the ways: (1) Replaced CUE with a new infotainment system; (2) further refined the already great platform with the Alpha 2; (3) significantly upgraded the interior, including additional amenities such as the previously absent cooled seats; (4) replaced the LTG with the newer LSY 2.0 turbo; (5) available new 2.7 turbo with 10-speed transmission; (6) availability of super cruise; and (7) electrical architecture. Did I miss anything?
Michael R Calabrese
what is the size of interior?
Alex Luft
Roughly that of the ATS Sedan.

Cadillac must think no one has the internet and can type in.. “G.M 8 speed transmission problems”.
Ricky
This one is different. It’s improved over the one that is causing all the problems in the last gen models.

Nice color. I can’t wait to look at one in person. If the trunk works and back seat, I might trade the Mustang.
Ricky
I had a Mustang GT before getting my ATS-V. The Cadillac drives better and is so much more refined… though I still appreciate and like the Stang can’t wait for the CT4 Blackwing.

Its a lot better looking than the CT5 !!!
