2020 Cadillac XT6 Officially Goes On Sale In China

Just a weeks after it started to reach American dealers, the new 2020 Cadillac XT6 is now officially on sale in China. The launch of the XT6 in China is a very important milestone for the luxury automobile brand as it aims to continue growing sales volume and market share in the world’s biggest auto market, which has also become Cadillac’s largest.

The new Cadillac XT6 lands with a significant competitive advantage over direct rivals in China, since it is the only locally-produced model in its segment. The circumstance allows Cadillac to avoid tariffs imposed by the Chinese government on imported cars, enabling the model to be offered at significantly lower prices than its competitors.

“The XT6 is a significant addition to Cadillac’s growing global SUV lineup,” said Sam Basile, executive vice president of SAIC-GM, the joint venture in charge of Cadillac in China. “It embodies the brand’s bold design, thoughtful technologies, unparalleled space and attention to detail. The XT6 is powerful and refined, offering an unmatched luxury driving experience to elevate every journey.”

Cadillac’s three-row, midsize-plus crossover is offered in a total of five variants in China classified into three levels of equipment: Luxury, Premium Luxury and Sport. It should be noted that the brand decided to offer the Luxury model as the base trim level in China, something it did not do in the United States, where the XT6 is available exclusively in two trims – Premium Luxury and Sport.

The 2020 Cadillac XT6 offers six- and seven-passenger seating configurations. The six-seat arrangement features two seats in the front row, two in the second row, and two in the third row. The second row features captain’s chairs while the third row is spacious enough even for adult passengers. The second and third rows can be easily folded via buttons inside the cargo compartment or just behind the second row of seats. The third row can also be raised using this electric control system.

In China, the Cadillac XT6 is offered exclusively with the turbo-charged 2.0L I4 engine (production code LSY) making a maximum of 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. It is coupled to the luxury automaker’s latest 9-speed automatic transmission. It is not clear at this point if Cadillac plans to offer a more powerful engine in China due to the stringent emissions regulations, called China-6, recently implemented in the country. In North America, the XT6 is offered exclusively with the naturally-aspirated 3.6L V6 engine (production code LGX).

The 2020 Cadillac XT6 is available in more than 300 Cadillac showrooms in China. Production of the Chinese-market XT6 takes place at the Cadillac Jinqiao plant in Shanghai. Models for North America will are produced at the Spring Hill plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee, United States.

Pricing starts at 419,700 yuan (about $61,029 USD, at the current exchange rates). Interested customers have five exterior color options and four interior color combinations to choose from.

The XT6 joins the compact XT4, introduced as an all-new model for the 2019 model year, and the midsize XT5, refreshed for the 2020 model year, to continue Cadillac’s outstanding commercial performance in China.
