Transmission Trouble-maybe

2020 Cadillac XT6 in the manual says on page 195 or 196 that there is a temporary tap shift mode using the left paddle. Has anyone tried to use this feature. Have tried many times to do this and cannot get it to work. Head service manager says that the manual is up for interpretation. Does not sound right to me. Can anyone help me with this feature?
