Cadillac parent, General Motors, has issued a recall for certain units of the 2023 and 2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV due to an issue with the luxury SUV’s braking system.
The problem: affected units of the Cadillac Escalade may not alert the driver if the brake fluid level dips below the specifications outlined in Federal/Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (F/CMVSS) No. 135, which refers to “Light Vehicle Brake Systems.” As such, the driver may not be made aware of a low brake fluid condition.
The hazards: if the driver is unaware of a low brake fluid condition, brake pedal performance may degrade before the “BRAKE” telltale light illuminates in accordance with FMVSS No. 135, thereby increasing the risk of a crash. However, in the event of a brake fluid leak, affected vehicles will still meet FMVSS No. 135’s stopping distance requirements.
The fix: a dealership technician will update the electronic brake control module (EBCM) software in affected units of the 2023 and 2024 Cadillac Escalade. This update may be performed on-site at a dealer service center or via an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge to the vehicle owner.

Number of affected vehicles: there are 33,005 Cadillac Escalade and 19,209 Cadillac Escalade ESV units involved in the recall. Across all GM brands, a total of 449,671 vehicles are affected by the failed brake fluid loss detection issue.
