Back in March, Cadillac Society reported that the second-gen Cadillac XT5 would debut this year in China. After all kinds of exclusive reports (and more than one of them), along with leaked images of the exterior and of the interior, plus all kinds of spy shots, the day of the reveal has finally come.
The vehicle was revealed today, Friday, August 2nd during a special event at Cadillac House in Shanghai. Not to be confused with the first-generation XT5 sold in North America, the all-new 2025 XT5 for China represents the second generation of the XT5 nameplate.
The second-gen Cadillac XT5 debuts eight and a half years after the nameplate’s initial introduction in November 2015, and about eight years after the launch of the current model in the Chinese market. In fact, the introduction represents the first overhaul of the Cadillac XT5 in its entire history as one of the brand’s highest-volume models globally.
Riding on an iterated variant of the C1 platform known internally as C1-2, the all-new 2025 Cadillac XT5 features new sheetmetal with larger dimensions and new proportions, while also adopting the latest evolution of Cadillac’s design language. The vehicle is three inches longer (192.4 inches long) and 2.1 inches wider (77 inches wide), and features a bolder design at the front and rear, along with a slightly revised profile, resulting in a planted stance along with a more modern and elegant demeanor.
The model shown here is the Sport trim, which features several trim-specific elements such as the mesh-style grille, plus a range of black trim pieces, including the window (DLO) trim, gloss black accenting and contrasting, and red-painted front brake calipers. The Sport trim differs substantially from the 2025 XT5 seen in leaked images previously, which showed the redesigned crossover in base trim with bright accent work.
The all-new 2025 Cadillac XT5 is set to officially launch in the Chinese market in the coming weeks, which is when Cadillac’s parent in China, SAIC-GM, will reveal complete details and specs, including powertrain, features and equipment. Cadillac Society sources have indicated that GM’s initial plans included offering the second-gen XT5 only in China, though GM did consider bringing it to North America.

It’s a shame the 2025 XT5 is a beautiful car/SUV. I am very sorry to hear that it’s not coming to the US. First the CT6 and now the XT5, what’s next? I hope Cadillac’s China first policy doesn’t bite them on the ass, but I bet it does!!!

Cadillac is pretty much done in the US market, GM sold most of the Design, Engineering, Manufacturing Technology to China many years ago.

I can’t wait to trade Lyriq for the new XT5.

This typical with GM they always make the wrong critical decisions. The first thing that comes to mind for me is the Oldsmobile F-88 it was a far superior to the corvette but because of Chevy being afraid it was killed. GM comes out with great looking concept cars, they never follow up on them. They don’t listen to the right people. It’s sad with all those great ideas they let them go by the wayside.

Is GM a Chinese company or a USA company? I love my xt5 and the design is old and have been waiting for the updated 2025 only to find out it’s for the Chinese market ONLY!First the electric mandate by the GM CEO now cars only built in China.A total disregard for the American car buyers 🥵🤬😡
"Cadillack" man
I totally agree with the above comments. When long-time customers don’t see the changes that are really overdue, I think they’re going to switch to another luxury brand.

You’re right, Cadillack Man – I’m one of those customers. Instead of leasing a third XT5 for my wife, I leased a 2024 Lincoln Nautilus, which is a really fine vehicle. I find it stunning that Cadillac, at least so far, has decided not to update the XT5 for the North American market. The second generation XT5, I think, is a really good looking design and I certainly would have been interested in acquiring one.

GM has sold out to China and it is going to bite them hard in the a$$. Just wait until the Chinese government says “we’ve taken enough of your technology, so get out”. Mary is going to get a rude awakening. Also, cutting bonuses for employees, yet her salary and bonus rises…I call bullsh!t.
We have been GM buyers for 50 years, currently having a 2020 Cadillac CT6 Premium Luxury. We have owned 5 new Cadillacs in 10 years. When I am ready to replace the CT6 or add to the garage, I will be shopping for Mercedes, Audi, Genesis or BMW since they offer full-sized luxury SEDANS and not just a CUV/SUV or EV’s.

Cadillac: once the GM self professed Standard of the World. Today: not so much; instead it’s picking its spots, eg, China in order to generate ROI, and dividends for shareholders.
