Second-Gen Cadillac CT6 vs. First-Gen Cadillac CT6 Dimensions Compared

Second-Gen Cadillac CT6 vs. First-Gen Cadillac CT6 Dimensions Compared

For North America, the Cadillac CT6 is a thing of the past, considering that the final unit rolled off the assembly line at the Detroit-Hamtramck plant in February 2020. However, the luxury sedan lives on in the form of the all-new second-gen model, which is offered exclusively in China. The new model features a completely revamped exterior, but we became curious how its size compares to that of the first-gen. Below, Cadillac Society is taking a closer look at how the first two CT6 generations stack up in terms of size.

Before getting into the nitty gritty, it’s important to note that the height, track, and weight of the second-gen CT6 vary depending on the wheels with which it’s equipped. The base trim level features standard 18-inch wheels while the rest of the lineup gets 19-inch wheels.

Both the first-gen Cadillac CT6 and the second-gen CT6 have exactly the same wheelbase, measuring 122.4 inches. The length is also identical at 205.8 inches, although the second-gen CT6 is slightly wider at 74.4 inches versus 74 inches even. The second-gen CT6 is also a bit taller at 58 to 58.3 inches high (depending on wheels), compared to the 58-inch-tall first-gen model.

Unsurprisingly, considering that it’s wider overall, the front track of the second-gen CT6 is wider as well – 63.7 to 64.2 inches, compared to the first-gen model’s 63.4-inch front track. The same goes for rear track, which is also wider at 64.3 to 65 inches as opposed to the first-gen model’s 64-inch rear track.

The two CT6 generations differ in terms of trunk volume. The first-gen Cadillac CT6 offers 15.8 cubic feet of space. That’s quite a bit less than the next-gen model, which boasts 17.9 cubic feet of cargo volume.

Finally, the second-gen Cadillac CT6 is heavier than the discontinued first-gen model. For context, we’re comparing the rear-wheel-drive variants; the first-gen CT6 was offered with an optional all-wheel-drive powertrain, while the Chinese-spec second-gen Cadillac CT6 is only offered with RWD. So, the first-gen CT6 tips the scales at 3,708 to 3,820 pounds, while the second-gen CT6 weighs in at 3,847 to 3,880 pounds, depending on wheel option.

  1. Is the the bigger trunk space something useable?

  2. I had a 2020 CT6 and loved it. It was big, comfortable and good looking…exactly what a Cadillac should be. If Cadillac were to bring the 2nd Gen CT6 to the US, I would be first in line to buy one.

    • Sorry. I don’t really care about a car built in China, for the Chinese.

With just one decision, this car could be offered in other markets.

  4. We have a 2020CT6 Premium Luxury and had a 2017 CT6 Premium. Mary and GM need to bring the CT6 back to the states as there aren’t any LARGE comfortable Cadillac sedans available. Not all buyers want a compact CT4 that seats 2 and rides like a truck, or an intermediate CT5 that is lack luster and also has a harsh ride. I, for one, will not buy a CUV/SUV, pickup or an EV.

Just give the buying public a full-sized luxury sedan. Market it and the buyers will come.

  5. The absence of Cadillacs like the CT6 is exactly why I have a new Mercedes in my garage.

    • I dislike SUVs because it feels like I am driving a bus. I prefer driving large limo like sedans which are quiet, comfortable and faster than most SUVs.

  7. Hey GM/Mary Barra/Cadillac – are you reading comments here at Cadillac Society? I agree with Frank+Ricciardi and Richard O’Shea bring back the full size CT6 sedan to North America. Two potential sales to Victor and Wayne were lost to Mercedes? And thanks to Alexandra Purcell for the great comparison. It’s interesting to read. But I’m sorry, it’s like pouring salt on an open wound.

  8. I like that corporate America is doing business with a country that continually steals our technology and is actively looking to go to war.

    • First of all, its the US neocons looking to go to war with any country that doesn’t dance to its tune. Neither China nor any other country “is actively looking to go to war.”

Second, the American public and stock market trained corporate America to do business and make money whenever and however they can. Don’t confuse your ill-founded ideologies with free market capitalism, which the USA pretends to be all about and “defend.”

  9. I have purchased 7 new and 2 used Cadillacs. When Cadillac walked away from their Customer Base I bought a 2019 Audi A6. Great Car. I’m taking delivery next week of a 2024 E-Class ordered 13 weeks ago. Will probably keep the Audi. By my recollection, had Cadillac hired a new design staff and kept improving their product, I would be taking delivery of my 3rd CT-6 this week and Cadillac will have made and sold another 2 million cars.
