The 2024 Cadillac Lyriq will receive the Digital Key feature after all.
Though we recently reported that the feature will not be included on the luxury crossover, the feature will be available after all on the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq right out of the gate, meaning it will be included with the luxury electric crossover at the start of 2024 model year production. However, as Cadillac spokesperson Joe Singer tells us, Digital Key will only be compatible with Apple devices at launch. Mid-model year, Cadillac expects to expand the feature’s compatibility to include Android devices as well.
Digital Key allows access and operation of the luxury electric crossover using a smartphone, thereby eliminating the need for a physical key fob. The feature, which was originally intended to debut as standard on the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq, including on Debut Edition models, was originally referred to as “KeyPass”. The tech would have offered the same functionality as Digital Key, but was ultimately dropped from the 2023 Lyriq. The inclusion of Digital Key on the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq marks the first time such a technology will be included on the luxury crossover, or on any Cadillac vehicle.
Riding on the BEV3 platform, the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq will be offered in either rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive, with the former harnessing a single Ultium Drive motor on the rear axle, and the latter adding a second motor on the front axle. RWD models boast 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque while the AWD setup features 550 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. Both configurations offer just over 300 miles of driving range on a single charge.
It’s worth noting that some orders of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq are being shifted to the 2024 model year as production for the 2023 model year will soon come to an end. As recently first reported by Cadillac Society, in addition to 2023 Cadillac Lyriq Debut Edition units, non-Debut Edition units of the Lyriq will also be built for the 2023 model year. Notably, this will include 2023 Lyriq units with rear-wheel-drive as well as those with the all-wheel-drive configuration.
