Cadillac Racing And Andretti Global Join Forces For Potential F1 Entry

Andretti Global, an Indianapolis-based motorsports outfit owned by Michael Andretti, announced that it intends to field a Formula One entry in collaboration with Cadillac parent, General Motors, as well as the luxury marque’s motorsports arm, Cadillac Racing.

The Andretti-Cadillac Racing team is currently in the process of drafting an Expression of Interest, which will be presented to the F1 sanctioning body when the process opens. According to a press release issued by General Motors, the team intends to compete “as soon as practical” pending approval, with at least one American race car driver behind the wheel of the open-wheel Cadillac.

“We are continuing to grow Andretti Global and its family of racing teams and always have our eyes on what’s next,” Andretti said. “I feel very strongly that we are suited to be a new team for Formula One and can bring value to the series and our partners, and excitement for the fans. I’m proud to have GM and Cadillac alongside us as we pursue this goal. GM and Andretti share a legacy born out of the love of racing. We now have the opportunity to combine our motorsport passions and dedication to innovation to build a true American F1 bid.”

“Cadillac and F1 both have growing global appeal,” said GM President, Mark Reuss. “Our brand has a motorsports pedigree that’s more than a century in the making, and we would be proud to have the opportunity to bring our distinct American innovation and design to F1.”

Cadillac Racing is certainly no stranger to motorsport success with its current entries in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and Pirelli World Challenge. On the endurance racing scene, the Cadillac DPi-V.R raced its way to quite a few wins, podiums and even championships. A new racer, the Cadillac V-LMDh, will compete globally in endurance championships in the near future

Currently, Andretti Global fields entries in IndyCar, Indy Lights, Indy Pro 2000,  Formula E, Australian Supercars and Extreme E. The team has won the Indy 500 five times and has four overall IndyCar championship victories.
