The Cadillac Lyriq was recently named one of the top candidates for the North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle Of The Year (NACTOY) Awards, slotting into the “Utility Vehicle of the Year” category.
This year, the Utility Vehicle segment is packed with competitors. The Cadillac Lyriq will compete against 30 rivals for the Utility Vehicle award, including the Audi Q4 e-Tron, Honda Pilot, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, Lexus RX, Toyota Sequoia, and many others.
The NACTOY awards are held annually, and eligible candidates are selected by a panel of 50 jurors from a variety of print, online, radio and broadcast media outlets across the U.S. and Canada. Each juror hails from a different publication or media outlet, ensuring a diversity of opinion while judging eligible vehicles.
“Once again the SUV category has the most eligible vehicles, but this list of confirmed vehicles demonstrates that automakers continue to believe in the future of the car category,” said NACTOY Secretary Nicole Wakelin.
The all-new battery electric Cadillac Lyriq has already proven to be a hit with consumers. Reservations for the very first units produced, known as Lyriq Debut Edition models, sold out in just under 10 minutes, when reservation banks opened last year. More recently, order books for subsequent models opened on May 19th and also filled up rather quickly. Interested parties are now able to sign up for the waitlist by placing a fully refundable $100 deposit, giving them a chance of receiving a 2023 model year Lyriq, or the first opportunity to secure a 2024 model year Lyriq.
Demographics of initial Lyriq customers are quite interesting, as many of them are younger. Specifically, 68 percent of initial Lyriq customers belong to Gen X or Gen Y demographic groups.
As a reminder, the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq Debut Edition was offered exclusively in the Luxury trim level with rear-wheel-drive. Subsequent models, however, will be available in either rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive. Power output is rated at 340 horsepower for RWD models and 500 horsepower for AWD models. Pricing for the Lyriq Luxury RWD starts at $62,900, while that of the Lyriq Luxury AWD starts at $64,900. A broader range of trim levels, such as Premium Luxury and Sport, are expected to arrive for the 2024 model year.
