Cadillac XT6 Earns 2022 Top Safety Pick+ Award For Vehicle Safety

The Cadillac XT6 was commended by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for its crash prevention and safety features, earning the organization’s Top Safety Pick+ Award in the Midsize Luxury SUV category.

The Top Safety Pick+ Award represents the highest tier recognized by IIHS for crash prevention and safety features, ranking above vehicles given the Top Safety Pick Award. In order to qualify for Top Safety Pick+, a vehicle must meet several criteria. For starters, a vehicle must have good ratings in various crash tests, including driver side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, and original side and roof strength, along with head restraint tests. Vehicles must also present well in tests of front crash prevention with vehicle-to-vehicle impacts, as well as vehicle-to-pedestrian impacts. They must also feature exemplary headlight performance.

The Cadillac XT6 performed well in all of the aforementioned areas, earning excellent marks in crash tests that examined the luxury crossover’s performance in head-on impacts, as well as on the passenger side. The XT6 exhibited minimal risk for passenger and driver injury in the event of an accident.

The 2022 Cadillac XT6 is equipped with a host of active safety features to help prevent accidents from occurring in the first place. The luxury crossover met IIHS requirements for forward collision warnings, avoiding collisions at 12 mph and 25 mph, thanks to features included in the optional Driver Assist Package. Available on Premium Luxury and Sport trims (but not on the base Luxury trim), the Driver Assist Package adds Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Seat Belt Tightening, Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking and Reverse Automatic Braking.

The Cadillac XT6 was also recognized for its headlight performance. IIHS studied an XT6 Sport and XT6 Premium Luxury, each equipped with the uplevel Premium Headlight System, noting that “on the straightaway, visibility was good on the right side of the road and fair on the left side,” but that “low beams created some glare.” The organization also noted that high-beam assist (IntelliBeam) “compensates for some limitations of this vehicle’s low beams on the straightaway, on both left curves and on the gradual right curve” of its test course.

Other Top Safety Pick+ Award winners in the Midsize Luxury SUV category were the Acura MDX and RDX, Audi Q5, Genesis GV70 and GV80, Hyundai Nexo, Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, Tesla Model Y, as well as the Volvo XC60 and XC90.
