Cadillac To Reprogram Cadillac CTS Active Safety Control Module

Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, has issued a service update for certain examples of the 2017 to 2019 model year Cadillac CTS sedans to reprogram the vehicles’ Active Safety Control Module.

The problem: affected units of the Cadillac CTS with the Active Safety Control Module (production code V2V) may display a “Service Vehicle Soon” light on the Driver Information Center (DIC), despite the vehicle not requiring any service at that time.

The hazards: the aforementioned issue with the Active Safety Control Module does not pose any immediate risk to drivers or passengers. However, some customers may be bothered by the “Service Engine Soon” light being illuminated without cause.

The fix: instances of the Cadillac CTS with the Active Safety Control Module are equipped with the necessary hardware and software to receive updates over-the-air. This means the update can be downloaded and installed remotely so long as the vehicle owner accepts the terms and conditions. Additionally, CTS owners who do not wish to perform the update themselves can take their vehicle to a dealer for the update, free of charge.

Affected components: Active Safety Control Module.

Affected vehicles: 2017-2019 Cadillac CTS (equipped with V2V Active Safety Control Module).

Number of affected vehicles: Cadillac has not indicated how many specific examples of the 2017-2019 CTS may be affected by the issue with the Active Safety Control Module.

Next steps: owners of affected CTS models can perform the software update over-the-air by accepting the terms and conditions through the vehicle’s central infotainment system / screen. Additionally, owners can contact their preferred dealer and make an appointment to have the update performed for them. The service update was activated in October 2021, and will not expire until the end of the vehicle’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty period. Affected vehicle owners may also reach out to Cadillac directly to address any questions or concerns they may have using the contact information included below.
