The latest Cadillac Blackwing sedans are equipped tip-to-tail with high-end performance gear, all the way down to the wheel specs. Now, we’re getting a look at the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing as it rides on upgraded magnesium wheels.
Back in October, Cadillac announced that the latest Blackwing sedans would be offered with optional magnesium wheels, providing a teaser of the bronze-colored rollers ahead of the models’ joint debut earlier this month. Now, we’re getting a look at how they look with the rest of the vehicle thanks to these photographs.
This particular 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing is draped in Wave Metallic paint, an eye-catching shade of blue that makes the bronze magnesium wheels really pop from under the wheel arches. Behind the spokes, we spot a blue finish for the Brembo brake calipers, tying the whole thing together nicely.
Magnesium wheels are traditionally found on race cars, but do occasionally make it onto ultra-high-performance vehicles as well. The material offers an impressive strength-to-weight ratio that cuts significant unsprung mass when compared to traditional aluminum wheels. The lower weight improves both handling and ride quality, and could also hasten acceleration figures, albeit only slightly.
Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, previously offered magnesium wheels as an available option on the fifth-generation Chevrolet Corvette, and now, it’s bringing them back with the latest Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing.
We previously spotted a CT5-V Blackwing sedan prototype running magnesium wheels back in December. Close-ups of those units revealed a 19-inch diameter and multi-spoke design, as well as Michelin Pilot rubber sized at 275/35ZR19 in front and 305/30R19 in the rear, making them wider than the tires previously equipped on the third-generation Cadillac CTS-V.
Unfortunately, the magnesium wheels option will not be available for the 2022 model year. That said, go ahead and dive into the pics to see how they look.
