Back in November 2019, Cadillac officially launched the all-new CT5 in China with the strategic objective of replacing the successful ATS-L, a model that was exclusive to the Chinese market and became one of the luxury marque’s best-sellers in that country. After ending 2020 as the fastest growing luxury sedan in the the Chinese D segment, the 2021 Cadillac CT5 now arrives in China with important technology updates.
The second model year of the Cadillac CT5 comes just as the sedan experiences its best commercial performance to date in China, which is the largest market for both the Cadillac brand as well as for the CT5 nameplate. Cadillac recently revealed that it sold 6,481 units of the CT5 in December 2020 in the Asian country, setting a new sales record that exceeds 5,135 CT5 deliveries throughout Q4 2020 in the United States.
To strengthen its increasing levels of success, the 2021 Cadillac CT5 add noteworthy equipment updates that enhance the vehicle’s competitiveness in the Chinese market. Most of the updates are to the interior, where the CT5 adds a new technology package that includes the latest generation Cadillac User Experience system with support for wireless Apple CarPlay and local services based on Android.
In addition, the 2021 Cadillac CT5 made in China is now offered for the first time ever with a fully digital instrument panel thanks to a new 12-inch LCD screen and high resolution graphics that users can customize to their liking. Together with its innovative, all-digital electronic architecture and OnStar’s advanced connectivity services, these enhancements make the 2021 CT5 one of the most technologically complete models in its class. It’s worth noting that the new digital instrument panel is also new for CT5 in other markets, including North America.
The remaining features of the 2021 Cadillac CT5 for the Chinese market remain the same as for its first model year. However, the new sedan receives slight trim adjustments such as a new seat combination and new materials for the range-topping Platinum models – the Luxury Platinum and Sport Platinum.
Mechanically, the vehicle continues to be powered by the turbocharged 2.0L I-4 engine (production code LSY) rated at 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The boosted four-pot is mated to Caddy’s 10-speed automatic transmission.
The 2021 Cadillac CT5 is now available across the luxury marque’s Chinese dealer network, where a total of six versions are offered in five distinctive trim levels. Basically, Chinese customers can choose a base CT5. From there, the Luxury branch of the Cadillac Y trim level strategy includes Luxury, Premium Luxury and Luxury Platinum models, all of which feature elegant characters. The other side of the trim level structure contains Sport and Sport Platinum models, which feature more sporty and youthful styling.
The 2021 Cadillac CT5 has the following starting prices in China:
