Anticipation is building for the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, the luxury marque’s up-and-coming ultra-high-performance sedan duo. Unfortunately, it looks as though the two Cadillac Blackwing models won’t be sold in Australia.
Per a recent report from the Australian automotive website whichcar, Cadillac may in fact be gearing up for a launch in the Australian market, likely with the all-new Cadillac Escalade SUV. However, the report also indicates that the two Blackwing sedans will not make it to Australian shores, given the “rapidly declining demand for performance four-door sedans.”
Last year, Cadillac Society reported that a white 2020 Cadillac CT5 was spotted in Melbourne, prompting speculation that the CT5 would be sold in Australia. More recently, Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, filed to trademark the Cadillac logo and name in Australia.
However, the latest would appear to deflate hopes for those Aussie fans eager to get their hands on one of the Cadillac Blackwing super sedans.
As a reminder, the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing will be powered by a twin-turbo 3.6L V6 engine, similar to the unit used in the now-discontinued Cadillac ATS-V (production code LF4), which produced 464 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing will be powered by an engine similar to the supercharged 6.2L V8 equipped by the Cadillac CTS-V (production code LT4), which produced 640 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque.
Both models will offer RWD and a six-speed manual transmission as standard, while a 10-speed automatic transmission will be optional. U.S. sales are expected to commence in mid-2021 calendar year as 2022 models.
