We recently shared news that Keanu Reeves will host a new docuseries that will tell the story of the Cadillac F1 team’s journey to the starting grid, which has been riddled with various bureaucratic obstacles. According to the latest rumblings from the ever-churning rumor mill, Sergio “Checo” Pérez’s name will appear throughout the upcoming docuseries, as he’s currently the leading prospect when it comes to the team’s pending driver lineup.
As a reminder, the Cadillac F1 driver roster has still yet to be confirmed, but the team previously indicated that it wanted to fill its driver lineup with one experienced wheelman next to young American talent.
The source of this latest development is a report from Autoevolution, which claims that the Cadillac F1 team is expected to announce a deal with Pérez shortly after the Hungarian Grand Prix in early August. Pérez formerly raced for Red Bull Racing (RBR) before being cut from the team, which resulted in him missing out on the 2025 season. Due to turmoil between the driver and the team, Pérez has gone on the record to say that he was not interested in returning to RBR due to poor treatment. Notably, RBR is set to partner with Ford next season.
Pérez has since gone on to acquire a new management team, which is headed by former A1 Grand Prix driver Khalil Beschir. The basis of the latest rumors is that the team has been in talks with potential teams for the last seven months. So far, Cadillac F1 is the leading prospect, despite earlier rumors that linked Pérez to Alpine.
