Cadillac XT5, XT6 Will Not See 2026 Model Year

Cadillac XT5, XT6 Will Not See 2026 Model Year

Yup, you read that right. The existing Cadillac XT5 and XT6 will not be offered for the 2026 model year in the U.S. market.

Cadillac Society has learned from sources familiar with the matter that the 2025 model year will be the last for the current, first-generation XT5 and XT6 in Cadillac’s home market. Cadillac has yet to announce the discontinuation officially, and a Cadillac spokesperson provided the following statement when we reached out for comment: “This year, two additional crossovers, Optiq and Vistiq, will join the Cadillac portfolio. Beyond that we have no portfolio adjustments to announce and can’t comment on the speculation. Cadillac’s crossovers remain very popular among luxury customers as evident by the recent sales success of XTs and Lyriq, which became the best-selling luxury EV in 2024.”

Meanwhile in China, Cadillac will continue offering both nameplates, albeit in different forms than currently offered in the U.S. The XT5 has been redesigned for a second generation, while the XT6 received a batch of relatively small updates. Both updates were announced in 2024.

The XT5 and XT6 will join the XT4 in being discontinued in the U.S. market. In fact, the XT4 is ending production this month, an about-face for Cadillac given that the model – which received a refresh for the 2024 model year – was originally slated to remain in production at least through 2026. All this means that Cadillac has entered the 2025 calendar year producing three XT models, but will end it producing none, as the Optiq, Lyriq, and Vistiq were viewed internally as replacements for the XT4, XT5 and XT6, respectively.

The move will leave the Escalade, CT4 and CT5 as the only models in Cadillac’s U.S. portfolio to be powered by internal combustion engines.

As for the Spring Hill plant that currently produces the XT5 and XT6, it will continue building the Cadillac Lyriq and the Acura ZDX. The three-row Cadillac Vistiq will carry the spirit of the XT6, with production slated to begin in Q1 2025.

  1. Cadillac is making a huge mistake by dropping the XT 5 & 6 and replacing them with electric versions. Look at ev sales and that should tell you. I don’t want or ever will want an ev. I’ll find another manufacturer of a luxury car. Will not go electric.

  2. Given the public’s lack of enthusiasm for EVs, Cadillac appears to be on a suicide mission in dropping most of their ICE powered lineup. Hopefully management will wake up before it is too late for the brand.

    • I know, it’s crazy! The general public has shown the auto industry already that there isn’t much instrest in the EV thing but they keep trying to force them on us. You are correct as well saying it appears Cadillac wants to go bankrupt. Who is making these dumb decisions at Cadiallc

      • The 400 HP / 410 lb ft of 6-cyl turbo pwr in the very well equipped, designed and way upscale interior US mfg’red Lincoln Aviator is a viable alternative (believe Lincoln ranked No.-1 in initial JD Power’s cust sat survey). Importantly Ford Corp has launched a full-court press to eliminate ALL prod / quality related issues before any vehicle leaves the factory. So should be good candidate. Same for Lexus, but then you get into MUCH higher service & repair costs and less power, even for highest HP version.

  3. Sorry but it appears that Cadillac just decided to kick a lot of loyal customers to the curb!!!! Too bad from a former Eldorado, DeVille, Escalade, SRX, XTS and current XT5 owner. Keep sucking up to your great China market. Goodby Cadillac.

    • I couldn’t have said it better myself; I’ve bought or leased 20 new Cadillacs over the past 25 years, including an Eldorado, a couple of Sevilles, a couple of Coupe DeVilles, an Allante, a Catera, a bunch of CTSs and SRXs, a CT6, a CT5, 2 XT5s and an XT6. If the XT6 is not available when the lease is up on my 2024,
I will probably lease an Audi or BMW. Not sure which, but I know it won’t be an Electric Cadillac. I hate to switch brands after 25 years, but I don’t want an Electric car

  4. So the remarkable XT5, that everyone has loved so long, will continue as a Chinese model as US buyers are forced to abandon the car for electric choices. As we now will re-continue to harvest our oil and fossil fuels under Trump, we’ll see people once again happily buy other brands. This is a stupid mistake Cadillac. It’s not too late to change your mind – wake up, folks do not want electric.

  5. Move the Optiq profuction from Mexico to Tennessee to prevent price increase due to Trump’s tariffs.

    • Smart move. Luv my Lyriq and couldn’t imagine going back to ICE. The XT series represents very old technology. EVs are the future and represent superior propulsion. The 2 years of free charging is great too.

      • Smart move FOR YOU. I wouldn’t buy an EV if you paid me, and I put my money where my mouth is – I just bought a new XT-5, wanting to avoid the Lyriq. Why would you suggest EVs “are the future”, when they eliminate driver/vehicle connection and weigh a ton? No thanks.

        • I am wondering if you’ve driven a Lyriq or other EV.
I test drove a Lyriq last year and then go back into my wife’s Lexus SUV and felt I went back in time.
I bought the Lyriq and have loved it ever since.
EV drive is so smooth, instant torque allow me to pull off moves I would hesitate to execute in a manual.
          Driving is believing.
It’s not for everyone. Home charging is a must as public charging gets old.

  6. Like other posters I have owned/leased over 20 Cadillacs. When the current lease is done in November on my wife’s XT5 we will be switching manufacturers-assuming the XT5 is finished. I’m not buying into the EV hype and will go another direction-even if not GM.

  7. I hope it is not too late when Cadillac finally realizes that their current course of action will lead them to bankruptcy. There are not enough buyers of EV’s to sustain their business model. Without the ICE XT’s I will be looking at Lexus, BMW or some other company that offers what “I want” not what Cadillac or the government wants me to have.

  9. Cadillac pulled me away from Ford in 1985. I now drive a 2020XT5. I love it. I was going to get me a new 2026 or 2027 XT5, but since it won’t be around I am forced to look elsewhere!! I live in Buffalo NY and will never ever buy a EV. Maybe when the USA has as many charging station as gas station, and only take 10mins for a full charge + correct faults and fires that EV’s are known for I may reconsider the purchase of an EV

  10. All the EV haters piling on. I’m hanging on to my 19 XT4, because I love it. But ICE vehicles will become less relevant. Maybe a lot less relevant.

  11. Ralph Meleo – I have been a Cadillac owner since 2006, and if I cannot replace my 2023 XT4 with a 2026 XT5 when my lease expires, I will be looking elsewhere for my luxury car leasing. GM is making a big mistake. America is not ready for all-electric. Manug=facture Hybrid and keep the XT5 in production. These automobiles will continue to be made for the Chinese market. Wake up GM. You are going to lose faithful clientele. The restrictions on gas-powered vehicles and the government incentives to buy electric are over now that we have a new business-minded president in the White House.

  12. Currently lease a 2022 xt4 which I am
extremely happy with. Cadillac has no replacement, and will discontinue the xt5.
Will not go electric, after fifteen years with
GM , will find another manufacturer.

  13. I’ll add my voice to the repeat buyers. I’m on Cadillac #13, a ’23 XT6, which will be replaced by a ’25/’26 Escalade, waiting for the rear-seat package, but I will NOT buy EV. As uncompetitive as the XT6 is, let’s be honest it was already old when it was new, its still ICE and many people aren’t ready for a BEV. The market just isn’t there yet, no matter the mandates that the world’s governments have legislated. I give Cadillac 2-3 years before the GM board pulls the plug.
