Cadillac Racing Has Disappointing Run In Brazil 2024

The Cadillac Racing team started strong but didn’t have the result to show for it in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on July 14th, 2024. After a late-race incident that prompted the No. 2 V-Series.R to return to the pits for a quick repair, the Caddy crew was only able to battle back to 13th when the six-hour sprint concluded.

The No. 2 Cadillac Racing V-Series.R, driven by Earl Bamber and Alex Lynn, started fourth. In fact, the team is now the only Hypercar entry to qualify in the top four in the past three races. Throughout his first turn behind the wheel, Bamber was able to maintain fourth. His first sting was uneventful and he swapped the controls to Lynn with three hours and 55 minutes left in the six-hour race. Lynn returned to the track with fresh tires and a full tank of fuel, but just two laps after heading out, he noticed a vibration and brought it to the attention of the crew.

After a quick stop to reseat the right front wheel, Lynn returned to racing, but the unscheduled stop stripped the Caddy team of 10 positions. He was running in 14th place when he swapped the controls back to Bamber for the final hour and a half. It was a one-stop race from there, and Bamber was only able to recover to 13th of 19 entries in the Hypercar division.

The No. 8 Toyota GR010 won the race after starting second.

“We unfortunately had a problem on the pit stop where we had to come back in and reseat the right-front wheel and that took us out of contention for a good result today,” Lynn said. “That’s the margins in WEC. Any small error will cost you dearly, and unfortunately that was us today. I think we had a solid race, a solid car and good performance. It’s just a shame not to reward everyone for the efforts.”

Meanwhile, Bamber said, “We managed to fight back, have good car speed but seem to have misfortune every race. We need to work out some details, execute better so we can score some points.”
