I never noticed the A pillar until you pointed it out (repeatedly) and it is of zero interest to me unless it is so thick that it visually obscures vehicles at intersections. If the A pillar is the worst of the Optiq, then it must be darn near perfect.
I have a 2012 SRX with 260,000 miles and was hoping to replace it with a newer version. The Lyriq was close, but I wanted something a little smaller. And the early production seemed to be so slow and then seemed to be mostly Tech models.
The Optiq rear pillar seems to be preferable to the one on the Lyriq. I look at the Lyriq and imagine it with a wrap around rear window as there was on the Camero and Firebird in the early 70’s.The front of the Optiq reminds me of the 65-66 Mustang grill.
The Electra e4 and the Optiq both interest me.
Thanks for a great review. Hope the therapy helps.

Man! Alex REALY went off on the A-pillar of the Cadillac Optiq. I’m not sure I think it’s as bad as he describes, but I agree that it harkens back to part of GM’s history that we don’t need to see repeated. Remember the disaster that was the Cimmaron?!? (A Chevy Cavalier with Caddy badging and leather seats vs. vinyl.)
However, I do take issue with the fact that Alex, in comparing other GM vehicles that share platforms, mentioned the Cadillac XT4 saying it shares platforms with the outgoing Chevy Malibu and former Buick Regal. He left of the current Buick Envision. Which, I might add, appears to share an A-pillar with its upscale Cadillac cousin! Was he as put off by those models sharing that element?
I’ve seen seen some Optiqs on the road that I assume are GM test models. I think they look GREAT! I like the “little” Escalade iQ look! (I do agree that the grill should be larger.) I expect some similarities in vehicles that share platforms and similarities between the Chevy Equinox EV and Cadillac Optiq don’t bother me nearly as much as they appear to bother Alex. (LOL)
I drive a 2019 XT4 Sport and would seriously consider the Optiq, but not until I have a garage in which I can install a home charger!
I like the podcast! Keep them coming! 🙂
