All-New 2025 BMW X3 Unveiled As Cadillac XT5 Rival

The completely redesigned 2025 BMW X3 just made its debut as the first model year of the luxury crossover’s fourth generation, bringing an all-new design, more horsepower and torque, along with advanced tech to the table. Once it launches, the new X3 will rival the Cadillac XT5.

The 2025 BMW X3 is offered in two trims, including the 30 xDrive and the performance-oriented 50 xDrive. Both feature mild hybrid technology, meaning they harness gasoline-powered engines paired with a small electric motor to improve efficiency and power output.

The BMW X3 30 xDrive is powered by a twin-turbo 2.0L four-cylinder mild hybrid gasoline engine, capable of 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The X3 M50 xDrive, meanwhile, harnesses a six-cylinder powerplant that doles out 393 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque.

For comparison, the Cadillac XT5 also offers two engine choices, both of which are underpowered compared to those of the new X3. These include the turbocharged 2.0L I4 engine (production code LSY), good for 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 engine (production code LGX), rated at 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque.

On the outside, the X3 boasts a completely overhauled exterior, borrowing design language from the redesigned BMW X1 and BMW X2 luxury crossovers. The front end features a new take on the signature BMW “kidney” grille, creating design congruity across BMW’s lineup. The update stands in stark contrast to the forthcoming XT5, which receives very minor changes and updates as the ninth model year of the luxury crossover’s first generation. While a second-gen XT5 is on the way, this model is exclusive to China and will not be sold stateside.

Inside, the 2025 BMW X3  boasts a more spacious cabin with up to 67.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind the first seating row. The cockpit also features a sporty flat-bottom steering wheel, heated and power-adjustable seats, new interior lighting signatures, and three available colorways. Its tech features include the Driving Assistant Professional Package, the automaker’s semi-autonomous driver assist feature. The X3 outclasses the XT5 in that department, too, as the first-gen XT5 is the only vehicle in Caddy’s lineup that will never receive Super Cruise, the luxury marque’s driving assistant.

Pricing for the 2025 BMW X3 starts at $49,500 30 xDrive trim and $64,100 for the M50 xDrive trim, not including the $1,175 destination freight charge. Meanwhile, the 2025 Cadillac XT5 will likely start at around $45,000.
