Don’t Tow With Your Cadillac Lyriq RWD

The Cadillac Lyriq boasts an impressive towing capacity for its stature, as the luxury electric crossover is capable of hauling up to 3,500 pounds. However, it’s important to note that this only applies to the all-wheel-drive Lyriq. In fact, the luxury marque has recently begun to inform owners that the rear-wheel-drive Lyriq shouldn’t be used to tow at all.

Cadillac Society has learned that Cadillac is currently sending an insert to dealers and owners of specific 2023 and 2024 model year Lyriq vehicles that contains “updated towing information.” Specifically, the insert states, “Never tow a trailer with your RWD vehicle. It was not designed or intended to tow a trailer.”

Initially, the owner’s manual in the Cadillac Lyriq indicated that the 3,500-pound towing rating applied to both AWD and RWD units. In November 2022, the luxury marque corrected the owner’s manual to reflect that the tow rating was applicable only to all-wheel-drive models. However, some owners received the original manual, which contained incorrect towing information.

Owners with the original owner’s manual will receive a physical copy of the updated towing information, which should be inserted into the Essential Operating and Safety Manual. Additionally, the electronic owner’s manual located in the infotainment system will update automatically.

As a reminder, the Lyriq rides on the luxury marque’s BEV3 platform, and is assembled at the Spring Hill plant in Tennessee for all markets except for China. RWD models feature one Ultium motor mounted on the rear axle, lending 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque for an estimated 312 miles of driving range.

Meanwhile, AWD models add a second motor to the front axle, resulting in 500 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. That can be upgraded via the Velocity software upgrade, which unlocks an additional 74 pound-feet of torque.
