The refreshed 2024 Acura TLX has been revealed, poised to continue its rivalry against the Cadillac CT5 with revised styling, performance improvements and a plethora of new tech inside and out.
Outside, the forthcoming TLX features relatively minor updates to its front end, although it now features a frameless Diamond Pentagon grille, which the automaker says was inspired by its Type S prototype. It also rolls on a brand-new set of 20-inch wheels.
Inside, the TLX boasts a 12.3-inch Precision Cockpit Digital Instrument Cluster, a larger central display and ambient LED lighting features. The new TLX touts reduced cabin noise while driving, thanks to updates across the board, while its array of AcuraWatch driver safety and assist systems has been expanded to include features like improved forward collision prevention. It also includes a wireless charging pad, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for ease of connectivity with a smartphone.
Under the hood, the 2024 Acura TLX features a choice of two engine options. The turbocharged 2.0L I4 engine is capable of 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, while opting for the twin-turbocharged 3.0L V6 grants 335 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. Both engines bolt to a 10-speed automatic transmission. For customers interested in a more performance-focused ride, the TLX Type S delivers a sportier tune, with enhanced throttle response thanks to the Sport+ drive mode. Front-wheel-drive is standard, while all-wheel-drive is optional.
The Acura TLX refresh coincides with that of the 2025 Cadillac CT5, which also features updated styling and technology, headlined by a revised front fascia. Its grille is notably wider than that of the 2024 model, while it boasts new signature lighting with vertical lighting strips extending downward on either side of the front bumper and stacked LED headlamps.
The forthcoming CT5 offers the standard turbocharged 2.0L I4 engine (production code LSY), capable of at 237 horsepower 258 pound-feet of torque. The optional twin-turbocharged 3.0L V6 engine (production code LGY) is rated at 335 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the CT5-V makes use of the same twin-turbo 3.0L V6 albeit in a different tune, resulting in 360 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque.
It’s worth noting that while the current Acura TLX tails the Cadillac CT5 in terms of sales volume in the U.S., the two luxury sedans are within 1,000 units of one another thru the first three quarters of the year.
