Cadillac XT6 Now Receiving Heated Steering Wheel Retrofit

Heated steering wheels are a nice comfort feature to have, especially in colder climates. Unfortunately, the industry wide semiconductor shortage forced Cadillac to withhold the feature from quite a few vehicles in its lineup, including the Cadillac XT6. Now, though, units of the luxury crossover built without the heated steering wheel can now have the feature retrofitted, Cadillac Society has learned.

The luxury marque is currently in the process of contacting owners of affected Cadillac XT6 units with instructions to have the heated steering wheel (production code KI3) installed and activated. In order to do so, the dealer will need to remove and replace the steering wheel assembly. This procedure will be performed at no extra cost to vehicle owners.

Affected units of the 2022 Cadillac XT6 were built at the Spring Hill plant in Tennessee between December 6th, 2021 and February 21st, 2022. In the absence of constraints, the heated steering wheel is standard on the XT6 Premium Luxury and Sport trims. It’s not available at all on the base Luxury trim.

Additionally, certain units of the 2022 and 2023 Cadillac XT6 that were built without Park Assist technologies are also eligible to have this feature retrofitted and activated, indicating that the global microchip supply shortage situation is finally stabilizing almost one year later.

The Cadillac XT6 is underpinned by the luxury marque’s C1 platform and is offered with a choice of two gasoline engines in the U.S. market. The first is the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 engine (production code LGX), rated at 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. This engine is standard on Premium Luxury and Sport models and is identifiable by the 400 badging on the liftgate.

The second is the turbocharged 2.0L I4 engine (production code LSY), which is rated at 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This engine is offered exclusively in the base Luxury trim, and the liftgate wears the 350T badge to identify the boosted four. Both engines bolt to Cadillac’s nine-speed automatic transmission.
