2022 Cadillac Escalade Loses Rear Window Express-Up Function

The ongoing global microchip shortage has claimed another feature. Cadillac Society has learned that as of April 25th production, new units of the 2022 Cadillac Escalade are being built without the rear window “express-up” function.

Express-up windows are activated by a simple pull of the window switch instead of requiring that the button be held in the up position until the window is completely rolled up. Despite the removal of express-up window functionality for the rear windows, the 2022 Cadillac Escalade retains both express-up and express-down functionality for the front windows. Additionally, the express-down feature remains intact for the rear windows.

At this time, it’s not clear when the express-up functionality will be restored to the rear windows of the Cadillac Escalade, or if buyers of affected vehicles will receive a credit. It’s also not clear if the feature could be retrofitted in the future once the microchip shortage situation allows.

It’s worth noting that parking assist features are also constrained on the 2022 Cadillac Escalade, along with certain rear-seat media features. It’s currently unclear if any of these features will return for the full-size luxury SUV’s 2023 model year.

As a reminder, the 2022 Cadillac Escalade represents the second model year of the full-size luxury SUV’s fifth generation. It is offered with two engine options. The first is the standard, naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 engine (production code L87), capable of 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The second is the 3.0L I6 turbodiesel (production code LM2), rated at 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Both engine options bolt to Cadillac’s 10-speed automatic transmission driving either the two rear wheels  or all four wheels via the optional 4WD system.
