Jeep parent company, Stellantis, has announced the 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer L – a new extended-length variant of the regular-length Grand Wagonner that will serve as a new rival to the Cadillac Escalade ESV.
Much like the Escalade ESV, the Grand Wagoneer L is 12 inches longer compared to the regular-length model, measuring in at 226.7 inches overall. Its wheelbase is extended by seven inches, bringing it to 130 inches. This makes for an increased cargo capacity, adding 15.8 cubic feet of storage behind the third row seats compared to the regular-length Grand Wagoneer.
“The all-new Grand Wagoneer [is] off to a great start, and we’re always striving to give customers even more of what they want,” said Jim Morrison, senior vice president and head of Jeep brand North America in a press release. “The new Grand Wagoneer L long-wheelbase model give our customers more: a more efficient and more powerful powertrain with the all-new Hurricane twin-turbo engines, and even more space, delivering best-in-class overall passenger volume, second-row legroom and cargo volume behind the third row, all while maintaining best-in-class towing capability of 10,000 pounds and a rewarding driving experience that is confidence-inspiring.”
The Grand Wagoneer L draws power from an all-new, twin-turbocharged 3.0 liter I6 engine, dubbed Hurricane, which is capable of 510 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. Three four-wheel-drive systems are offered, along with a Quadra-lift air suspension system and five different driving conditions available through its Selec-Terrain system.
Meanwhile, the extended-wheelbase Cadillac Escalade ESV is approximately 16 inches longer than the regular-length Escalade, measuring in at 226.9 inches overall. And at 134.1, its wheelbase is 13 inches longer than that of the regular Escalade. These dimensional additions deliver an additional 16 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the third row seat.
The Escalade and Escalade ESV offer two available engine options. The first is the standard, naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 engine (production code L87), capable of 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The second is the optional 3.0L I6 turbodiesel (production code LM2), rated at 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Both engine options bolt to Cadillac’s 10-speed automatic transmission driving either the two rear wheels (2WD) or all four wheels via the optional 4WD system.
