Other brands that backed the event included Procter & Gamble, Coke Zero Sugar, Baccarat, Dove, Goldman Sachs, United Airlines, and McDonald’s. Verizon was the event’s title sponsor.

Every year, Ebony magazine hosts the Ebony Power 100 Gala, an awards ceremony that recognizes outstanding leaders and achievements from members of the Black community. Awards were given out for a myriad of different fields and disciplines, including sports, business, media, activism, music and entertainment. The awards ceremony was hosted by Emmy Award-winning and Grammy nominated actor, singer, comedian and television personality, Wayne Brady.

A star-studded lineup of musical talent included performances by Major, Deon Jones, Justin Skye, Erica Campbell and Lucky Daye, with DJ Aktive on deck for the afterparty. Notable award winners included Storm Reid, receiving the rising star award in recognition of her budding career. Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett was recognized as innovator of the year for her contributions to the “healing of the world” by leading a team of scientists spearheading the Moderna COVID vaccine. The entertainers of the year were Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith, and Adrienne Banfield-Norris, the hosts of talk show Red Table Talk.

“With this year’s Ebony Power 100, we knew we had to come back in a big way,” Ebony CEO Michele Ghee said in a statement. “Our 2021 honorees represent a diverse collective of leaders, trailblazers and powerhouse creatives in their respective industries. With Wayne Brady at the helm as host, I know that we are creating an unforgettable evening of celebration and a milestone for the new Ebony as we culminate our 75th Anniversary!”
