The upcoming Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing are set to scorch the performance luxury world with neck-snapping performance. Naturally, high horsepower figures pair nicely with a manual transmission, and Cadillac will offer both the CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing with a three-pedal, six-speed setup. And now, Cadillac Society has learned that Tremec, a world-renowned transmission supplier, will provide the manual gearboxes for both of the forthcoming Blackwing models.
It’s unclear which Tremec transmission the CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing models will use, though the the gearbox in the latter will be more robust than that of the former as a result of considerable power differences between the two models.
The CT4-V Blackwing is expected to be powered by a twin-turbo 3.6L V6 gasoline engine similar to the mill found in the aforementioned Cadillac ATS-V (production code LF4), which produced 464 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the CT5-V Blackwing is expected feature a supercharged 6.2L V8 similar to the engine found in the third-generation Cadillac CTS-V (production code LT4), which produced 640 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque.
It’s worth noting that the now-discontinued six-speed manual transmission in the ATS-V was the Tremec TR6060. Currently, the only compatible six-speed manual listed on the Tremec website is the TR6060, which leads us to believe that Cadillac will either utilize an updated version of that transmission, or a new Tremec gearbox that has yet to be announced. The transmissions in the both the CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing will take advantage of 3D printing and will feature various improvements resulting in quieter and more durable characteristics.
To note, both new Blackwing sedans will also offer a 10-speed automatic transmission as an available option while the Tremec-supplied six-speed manual transmissions will be standard.
