Following its official global debut at a special media event in Beverly Hills in February, the very first units of the all-new 2021 Cadillac Escalade will go into production in June. And today, we’re back to tell you all about the 2021 Cadillac Escalade fuel economy.
Compared to the outgoing model, the 2021 Cadillac Escalade fuel economy adds one mpg in the city, but loses three mpg on the highway for the 2WD model. Meanwhile, models equipped with 4WD lose two mpg on the highway and one mpg combined.

The standard engine in the 2021 Cadillac Escalade is the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 gasoline motor (production code L87). Featuring variable valve timing, direct fuel injection, and Dynamic Fuel Management, the Small Block V8 is rated at 420 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm. It mates to Cadillac’s new 10-speed automatic transmission.
The 2021 Cadillac Escalade will also offer a more efficient engine in the form of the turbodiesel 3.0L I6 (production code LM2) as a no-cost option. Output from the diesel six is rated at 277 horsepower at 3,750 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 1,500 rpm. Like the gasoline engine, the turbo-diesel also mated to Caddy’s new 10-speed auto gearbox. Fuel economy figures for the diesel engine are currently not unavailable, but according to Escalade Marketing Manager Dave Schiavone, the gains should be “significant” compared to the standard gas V8.
Meanwhile, the previous-generation Escalade was offered exclusively with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 gasoline engine (production code L86). It was rated at 420 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm, and featured variable valve timing, direct fuel injection and Active Fuel Management. 2015-2017 models mated to the 8-speed automatic transmission, while 2018-2020 models got the 10-speed automatic.
