Here’s What We Know About The Next-Level Cadillac CT4-V

Cadillac is currently hard at work on the range-topping variant of the CT4-V as part of the luxury brand’s two-tier V-Series strategy. Initially teased in June 2019 at the Belle Isle Grand Prix, the range-topping Cadillac CT4-V is planned for a debut later this year and should go on sale in 2021 (if the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic doesn’t interfere, that is). There’s quite a bit of excitement about the upcoming next-level CT4-V, so we’ve compiled a guide of what to expect from the upcoming super sedan.

First, let’s talk about the name. As Cadillac Society was the first to report, the next-level Cadillac CT4-V was initially supposed to use the “Blackwing” name. However, it’s unclear whether this will be the case when the model launches, as the branding direction may have changed since our initial report. Indeed, without the Blackwing engine under the hood, some might find the name strange for the next-level Cadillac CT4-V. For the time being, we’ll refer to the vehicle in question interchangeably as the “next-level Cadillac CT4-V” or “CT4-V Blackwing.”

Power should come from a familiar poweplant – a twin-turbocharged 3.6L V6 engine previously utilized in the ATS-V. In that application, the boosted six was assigned production code LF4 and was rated at a healthy 464 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque, though the tune and associated figures will likely be slightly different for the next-level CT4-V. Transmission options will include a six-speed manual (yes, a manual!) and the now-familiar 10-speed automatic. Notably, the CT4-V Blackwing won’t have the Cadillac twin-turbo 4.2L V8 engine (production code LTA), otherwise known as “Blackwing.” This will also be the case for the larger, next-level CT5-V.

The exterior will feature more aggressive cues, with a more aggressive front fascia. A set of air extractors will be present behind the front wheels – a feature that the ATS-V did not have. Don’t expect an air extractor in the hood – as prototypes do not have the feature. A set of trapezoidal quad exhaust tips will be seen out back, with the exhaust note tuned to be notably different from the ATS-V.

Larger brakes will combine with bigger wheels wrapped in wider tires. In fact, the rolling stock will be similar (if not identical) in dimensions to that used on the ATS-V. which we’ve included in the table below for reference.

Front Rear
Wheels (in / cm) 18 x 9 / 45.7 x 22.9 18 x 9.5 / 45.7 x 24.1
Tires 18" 255/35-18 18" 275/35-18

Inside, we expect the next-level Cadillac CT4-V to feature various performance enhancements, highlighted by sport bucket seats, carbon fiber and aluminum decor, and a steering wheel stripe at the 12 o’clock mark on the steering wheel.

The Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing / next-level CT4-V will be joined by the larger CT5-V Blackwing. Unfortunately, the CT6-V with the actual Blackwing engine have ceased being part of the lineup as of February.
