Cadillac Racing Misses Out On Podium At Road America 2025

Despite two of the three V-Series.R contenders holding second- and third-place positions for some time, none of the Cadillac Racing GTP machines managed to podium in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at Road America 2025 on Sunday, August 3rd. The luxury marque’s German rival, BMW, came away with the overall victory thanks to a strong performance from its No. 24 car of Team RLL.

At one point, all three V-Series.R race cars were in the top six of the GTP class, and they maintained that distinction for a total of 51 laps. Although each team had a relatively strong performance, a few challenges and mishaps resulted in the No. 31 car, No. 10 car, and No. 40 car finishing in fourth, eighth, and ninth place, respectively.

The No. 31 car of Whelen Engineering – which was piloted by Jack Aitken and Earl Bamber – came closest to a first-place finish, and was in second with an hour and a half left to go. However, a final pit stop at the 47-minute mark caused it to lose its podium position and resulted in the fourth-place finish.

“It was generally good. I think we played it pretty smart. I tried to save as much energy as I could and still managed to capitalize on getting some positions in traffic,” Bamber said. “The first half of the race actually worked out really well for us. And being better on energy allowed us to jump up to second. Things were looking pretty positive. We were better than most of the people on energy and were showing decent pace.”

Wayne Taylor Racing’s No. 10 car – piloted by Ricky Taylor and Filipe Albuquerque – lost its podium position due to an unfortunate mishap. Although it held third place and was making good pace, contact with a competitor put Taylor into a spin, resulting in an eighth-place finish.

“Holding on P3 with strategies, it looked good,” Albuquerque said of his teammate. “Ricky went on with P3 and unfortunately with some battling with GTs and then fighting with the Porsche it was an unhappy ending for us. Ricky spun and the Porsche got a stop plus 60 [seconds], so it’s just frustrating because I think we had the pace to the BMWs that finished 1-2.”

Meanwhile, Wayne Taylor Racing’s second entry – the No. 40 V-Series.R driven by Louis Deletraz and Jordan Taylor – finished ninth after holding fifth with about two hours left to go.

As a reminder, this year’s race lasted two hours and forty minutes. This will change next year, as the race will extend to six hours for about twice as many stints.
