Sales of luxury D-crossovers decreased two percent to 128,420 deliveries during Q2 2024, meaning that XT5 sales underperformed the segment average.
Cadillac XT5 sales fell down once again during Q2 2024, continuing a recent trend that has seen the luxury crossover lose volume and ranking in the luxury D-segment crossover spare. This is at least in part due to the fact that the XT5 is showing its age. The current model was introduced for the 2017 model year, but it hasn’t really hasn’t changed much since then, and has been standing still while direct competitors have received overhauls (redesign and re-engineering). In fact, the XT5 (along with the Alfa Romeo Stelvio) is now the oldest model in its segment.
There is a second-generation XT5 inbound, but it is not destined for North American shores. That’s because the all-new luxury crossover is a China-exclusive model, and while it may be a welcome entry in the U.S. for some, there’s just no room to build the gasoline-powered model as Caddy continues to match toward an all-electric future. Our podcast below explains why the second-gen model isn’t coming Stateside.
We expect the first-gen XT5 for North America to sunset soon, ending the luxury crossover’s run on its home turf while it continues on as a revitalized model overseas. Until then, though, we expect sales to continue to slide as interest in the aging crossover wanes, all but sealing its fate.
One of four new colors for the 2025 model year.
And it now represents the best value in its segment.
A curious sighting from a video of the Cadillac design studio.
