2024 Cadillac Lyriq Vehicle-To-Home Capability Coming Later This Year

One of the benefits of owning an EV is that the vehicle could act as an emergency power source via vehicle-to-home (V2H) technology, which allows for bidirectional charging. The 2024 Cadillac Lyriq did not have this capability at launch, but the feature is headed to the luxury electric crossover later this year.

Cadillac parent, General Motors, plans to implement V2H capabilities in all of its Ultium-based EVs by 2026. The 2024 Cadillac Lyriq will be one of the first to gain the tech, followed by the Cadillac Escalade IQ. The luxury marque, however, does not have a specific timeline for the rollout, and simply states that V2H is “coming soon” on the GM Energy website.

Cadillac Society reached out to Cadillac for more information, and a representative told us, “We will have more to share on V2H capability for current Lyriq owners later this year.”

When it does make its way to the Lyriq, V2H tech will be supported by GM Ultium Home offerings and GM Energy Cloud, the latter of which is a software platform that enables users to manage the transfer of energy between eligible GM Energy products and their homes. When enabled, V2H will allow EV owners to transfer energy from their battery electric vehicle to a properly outfitted home. Not only can this keep a household running, to an extent, during a power outage, but it can also help offset energy usage across the grid during times of peak demand.

As a reminder, the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq sources its power from a 12-module Ultium battery sized at 102 kWh. Ultium Drive motors handle propulsion, with the Lyriq offered in either rear-wheel-drive (RWD) or all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations. The Lyriq RWD can travel up to 314 miles on a single charge, while Lyriq AWD units are good for 307 miles from a full charge.

Under the skin, the Cadillac Lyriq rides on the BEV3 platform. Production is handled at the Spring Hill plant in Tennessee.

We will be there every step of the way as Cadillac moves through its EV transition, so be sure to subscribe to Cadillac Society for ongoing Cadillac news coverage. We also invite you to join the latest discussions in our Cadillac forums.
