Since their launch for the 2021 model year, the fifth-generation Cadillac Escalade (along with the Escalade ESV) have been available with the optional 3.0L I6 turbodiesel engine (production code LM2). However, as first reported by Cadillac Society, the 2024 Cadillac Escalade diesel will be the last of its kind, as the 2025 Escalade will not offer the turbodiesel engine at all. In fact, today – August 8th, 2024 – is the last day to put an order in for a diesel-powered Escalade.
Sources familiar with the matter tell us that the Duramax diesel engine will not be offered on the 2025 Cadillac Escalade due to extremely low demand during prior model years. That’s quite an about-face from initial expectations. Not only was the refreshed Escalade expected to continue to offer a diesel engine, but it seemed to be in line to receive the new and improved 3.0L turbodiesel (production code LZ0), which has been replacing the LM2 turbodiesel within GM’s general portfolio. Regardless, production of the Escalade with the LM2 engine will wrap up on September 16th, 2024.
That means that the only engine available for the “regular” Escalade will be the the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 gasoline engine (production code L87), which is capable of 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. A power upgrade is and will continue to be available in the form of the high-performance Cadillac Escalade-V, which features the supercharged 6.2L V8 gasoline engine (production code LT4), rated at 682 horsepower and 653 pound-feet of torque.
While it’s the last day to place an order for the Cadillac Escalade diesel, that doesn’t mean there won’t be any new units available in dealer inventory beyond this date. That said, if you want to make sure you have a 2024 Escalade diesel, then walk run sprint to your Caddy dealer to have them place an order.
Production of the Cadillac Escalade, which rides on the luxury marque’s T1 platform, is handled at the Cadillac Arlington plant in Texas. Assembly of the refreshed 2025 Escalade is scheduled to begin in early October.
