Cadillac parent company, General Motors, has issued a recall for certain units of the 2024 Cadillac XT5 and 2024 Cadillac XT6 to address an issue with the vehicles’ instrument panels.
The problem: a defect in the instrument cluster software can cause the display located in the center portion of the instrument panel to turn off unexpectedly. As a result, indicator lights located in the vehicle’s instrument panel for the activation of turn signals, hazard warning flashers and high-beam headlights may fail to illuminate as required. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 101, “Controls and Displays” and 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
The hazards: if the instrument cluster lights fail to illuminate, drivers may not be made aware that turn signals, hazard warning flashers, or high-beam headlights are on or remain unintentionally activated, potentially confusing or distracting pedestrians and other vehicles on the road, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix: a dealership technician will update the vehicle instrument panel software in affected units of the Cadillac XT5 and XT6, free of charge to vehicle owners. In certain cases, this may require full replacement of the instrument cluster assembly.
