Refreshed 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Debuts As Cadillac Escalade Rival

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class recently underwent a midcycle refresh, gaining new touches to the exterior to improve aerodynamic properties, a host of new tech features, and an overhauled powertrain lineup to rival the full-size Cadillac Escalade.

Most notably, the refreshed 2025 G550 drops the twin-turbo 4.0L V8 in favor of the turbocharged 3.0L I6 engine with 48V mild hybrid technology, good for 443 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque; the mild hybrid system offers temporary boosts of 20 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the G 63 retains its twin-turbo 4.0L V8, with 577 hp and 627 pound-feet, but gains 48V mild hybrid tech for temporary output boosts of 20 hp and 148 pound-feet. Meanwhile, the all-electric G-Class also recently made its debut, where it will compete against the Cadillac Escalade IQ.

Outside, the refreshed 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class gets new A-pillars, an updated grille, redesigned bumpers and a subtle rear spoiler mounted atop the rear glass.

Inside, the boxy luxury SUV gains tech features such as the automaker’s MBUX infotainment system, replacing the outgoing COMAND system found in the current model. Other highlights include an updated 360-degree camera system, off-road gauges, a “transparent hood” feature, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a generous 12.3-inch driver and multimedia display.

Pricing for the refreshed 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class has yet to be revealed, but thanks to all the new features and updates, it’s expected to carry a price tag that’s slightly higher than that of the current 2024 model year. For reference, the current G550 starts at $143,000, while the G63 starts at $183,000.

Comparatively, the 2025 Cadillac Escalade is set to deliver a host of welcome changes to the full-size luxury SUV, highlighted by a refreshed front fascia design that will share quite a few cues with that of the Escalade IQ, as previously reported by Cadillac Society. It will also offer on 24-inch wheels. As of this writing, pricing for the refreshed 2025 Escalade has not yet been revealed.

  1. The Benz G-Class has long been a high priced sought-after vehicle. But it is a utilitarian machine while the Escalade is so much more luxurious. I’m not sure the two are equitably comparable.
