Cadillac China Sales Increased Two Percent In Q1 2024

Cadillac China sales increased two percent to 33,000 units during the first quarter of 2024.

Cadillac does not provide individual sales performance of its vehicles in China, but we do have the following information:

  • China has lost its place as Cadillac’s largest global market by sales volume during the first quarter, the first time that this has taken place in a while
  • The Cadillac CT5 is brand’s most popular modes in China
    • CT5 sales in China exceeded 18,000 units in the Q1
  • In Q2, the all-new Cadillac Optiq will join the Lyriq as the luxury marque’s second Ultium-based EV to attract young, aspiring customers in the Chinese market

The Cadillac Society Take

After two consecutive quarters in the red, Cadillac China sales saw a healthy increase during the first quarter of 2024. Even so, this improvement was not enough for China to remain the marque’s largest volume market worldwide. Notably, the 33,000 units sold in the Chinese market were surpassed by the 35,451 deliveries during Q1 in the United States.

The slight increase in sales for Cadillac China during the first quarter of the year was led by the best-selling Cadillac CT5, which surpassed 18,000 deliveries during the first three months of the year, remaining the marque’s best-selling model in the local market. We posit that the CT5 was able to achieve this level of commercial performance thanks to the arrival of the refreshed model, which launched in China in the beginning of the year with notable content and positioning improvements that reinforced its level of competitiveness.

On the other hand, the lack of specific Cadillac Lyriq sales figures suggests that the battery electric model’s performance isn’t anything to write home about in China. Cadillac’s first all-electric crossover got off to a weak start and has struggled to maintain its appeal amid its competitors’ fierce price war in the local market. Cadillac is preparing to introduce the all-new Cadillac Optiq, which will slot below the Lyriq in terms of size and price, during the second quarter of the year to boost interest in Cadillac EVs in the Asian country.
