Cadillac Racing Recovers From Early Race Crash At Qatar 2024: Video

Alex Lynn, Earl Bamber and Sebastien Bourdais split duties behind the wheel of the No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R race car for the FIA World Endurance Championship season opener at Qatar on March 2nd, 2024, finishing fourth despite an early-race incident.

The No. 94 Peugeot of Stoffel Vandoorne, Paul di Resta and Loïc Duval spun off the course early in the 10-hour event after making contact with the No. 2 V-Series.R. The Caddy race car incurred slight damage to its front left fender, but it wasn’t enough to hamper its performance. The damage was addressed, and the No. 2 V-Series.R dipped as low as 15th before its trio of stellar drivers clawed back inside the top 10 and eventually into fourth place, one lap behind the leaders.

As a reminder, the No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R remains the luxury marque’s sole WEC entry, once again fielded by Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR). Bamber, Lynn and Bourdais are all familiar faces in the Cadillac Racing stable, and the experience in Qatar will provide them all with valuable experience for the rest of the 2024 FIA WEC racing season. Bourdais benefitted the most, having returned to the WEC after competing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar championship in 2023.

“Putting Sebastien Bourdais in the No. 2 for the Qatar events is going to give him a chance to refamiliarize himself with the WEC rules and regulations,” said CGR Director of Operations, Mike O’Gara, in a press release. “It is also going to allow us to strengthen the bond between the U.S.-based IMSA team and the Germany-based WEC team. We know it is going to strengthen both programs and better prepare us for our 2024 attack on the 24 Hours of Le Mans.”

Cadillac streamed most of the Qatar 1812 Km, so check out the in-car action in the video below.
