European Cadillac Lyriq Isn’t More Powerful Than U.S. Model

The 2024 Cadillac Lyriq is on its way to Europe, having already been announced for Switzerland, with Sweden and France next in line. In Europe, the Lyriq will be sold exclusively with the two-motor all-wheel-drive setup, and initial specifications indicated that it would be more powerful than its North American counterpart, but this will not be the case.

2024 Cadillac Lyriq AWD models harness twin Ultium Drive motors, one on the front axle and another mounted to the rear. When it was announced, the European Lyriq was rated at 528 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, which is 28 horsepower more than the North American Lyriq.

However, a spokesperson from Cadillac Europe confirmed to Cadillac Society that there is no actual power difference between the European market Lyriq and the North American market, stating that “The power units are the same as the U.S. vehicles. There are some nuanced differences between the US and EU when it comes to the procedure used to measure engine power, which has resulted in this discrepancy.”

As a reminder, Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, exited the European market in 2017 after the sale of its Opel-Vauxhall divisions, although it maintained a smaller presence with limited models like the Chevrolet Corvette. The Cadillac Lyriq will be the first mass-market vehicle that the automaker will offer in the region in nearly seven years.
