Velocity Upgrade Headed To 2023 Cadillac Lyriq

The Velocity powertrain upgrade adds extra torque to the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq AWD (all-wheel-drive) for those looking for higher levels of performance. Now, Cadillac Society has learned that this optional upgrade will also be offered on the 2023 model year Lyriq.

“We are currently offering Velocity as an optional software upgrade on the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq AWD,” a Cadillac spokesperson told Cadillac Society. “It will be available on the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq AWD at a later date.”

As a reminder, the Velocity powertrain upgrade is an over-the-air (OTA) update for the Lyriq that adds 74 pound-feet of torque to the Cadillac Lyriq AWD, bringing it from 450 to 524 pound-feet of torque. That gives it enough power to match the Chinese-spec Lyriq AWD, which is rated at 710 Nm of torque, roughly equivalent to 524 pound-feet. Harnessing that extra power will help the 2024 Lyriq AWD make the sprint from zero to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, down from 4.7 seconds offered by the stock Lyriq AWD.

For the 2024 Lyriq, the Velocity powertrain upgrade requires a one-time payment of $1,200, after which the software will be installed remotely. Once the purchase has been completed and the OTA update installed, the Lyriq gains a new Velocity Mode in place of the stock Sport Mode in the Lyriq AWD’s drive mode selector menu.

At the time of this writing, it’s not clear when the Velocity powertrain upgrade could be released for the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq. It’s also not clear if the upgrade will affect the range of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq AWD. Without it, the luxury electric crossover is capable of traveling 307 miles on a single charge.

Riding on the luxury marque’s BEV3 platform, the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq was assembled at the Spring Hill plant in Tennessee for all markets except for China.
