2024 Cadillac Lyriq AWD Gets New Velocity Powertrain Upgrade

Cadillac is offering a unique upgrade for those looking for even more performance from the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq AWD. Cadillac Society has learned that the upgrade, appropriately dubbed Velocity powertrain upgrade, costs $1,200 and is delivered via an over-the-air (OTA) update to the luxury electric crossover.

Once the one-time purchase has been completed and the OTA update installed, the Lyriq gains a new Velocity Mode that replaces the Sport Mode in the Lyriq AWD’s drive mode selector menu.

The Velocity upgrade adds 74 pound-feet of torque to the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq AWD, bringing it from 450 to 524 pound-feet of torque. That puts it right on par with the Chinese-spec Lyriq AWD, which is rated at 710 Nm of torque, roughly equivalent to 524 pound-feet. Harnessing that extra power will help the 2024 Lyriq AWD gallop from zero to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, down from the 4.7 seconds of the stock Lyriq AWD.

According to the update to the Cadillac Lyriq manual notes, Velocity Mode should be activated “where road conditions or personal preference demand a more controlled response.” It describes most settings as being identical to that of Sport Mode, while lending “additional propulsion torque to improve acceleration on dry pavement” to the luxury EV crossover.

Interestingly, the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq AWD will retain the 600E4 badge on the liftgate, which decorates all North American Lyriq AWD models. That badge references the model’s 610 Nm of torque, rounded to the nearest hundred. The Cadillac Lyriq AWD sold in China, meanwhile, wears the 700E4 badge, representing its 710 Nm of torque.

At the time of this writing, it’s not clear if the Velocity upgrade will also be available to owners of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq AWD, though we expect that the driveline improvement will also be offered on this model.
