Cadillac Racing Has Rough Time At Monza, Mosport June 2023

Three Cadillac Racing entries were spread across two race tracks on Sunday, July 9th, 2023, with the No. 2 V-Series.R at Monza, while the No. 31 V-Series.R and the No. 01 V-Series.R took to the track at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, formerly known as Mosport. All three race teams encountered hardship over the course of their respective events, and wound up with mediocre finishes in both IMSA and the FIA World Endurance Championship races.

The No. 01 Cadillac Racing V-Series.R, driven by Renger van der Zande and Sebastien Bourdais, had perhaps the worst race of all three Caddys. While this race car showed speed in the initial stages of the race, when van der Zande had control near the end, he made contact with a competitor. Unable to course correct, the No. 01 V-Series.R hurtled across a sand trap and piled into a tire barrier. Van der Zande was unhurt, but the race car was unable to continue, relegating the No. 01 Cadillac to a ninth-place finish.

The No. 31 V-Series.R, driven by Pipo Derani and Alexander Sims, had a much less chaotic run. However, the No. 31 V-Series.R just didn’t have the speed to pace the leaders, finishing seventh overall.

Meanwhile, the No. 2 Cadillac Racing entry at Monza was piloted by a joint effort between Earl Bamber, Richard Westbrook and Alex Lynn. After pit stops cycled through, the No. 2 V-Series.R took over the lead, but Westbrook, who was driving at the time, was called back into the pits for emergency fuel. Then, just two laps later, he was called back in for full fueling and energy, putting him off the pace and ruining the No. 2 Caddy’s chances at winning the day.  This team ultimately finished 10th.
